What was considered “the technology of the future” just a few years ago is now commonplace in thousands of Finnish homes, housing associations and businesses. But where will the market and technology develop in 2025?
At Renewe, we closely follow the solar market with over 25 years of experience, and we want to share our insights on which trends will really influence the decisions of both property owners and industry professionals this year.
Traditionally solar panels is installed facing south, but more and more housing companies and single-family homes are utilizing east-west installation – and for good reason.
“East-west installation offers longer production time and more consistent energy output”, says Renewe's project manager Ville Nieminen. “The panels operate efficiently from morning to night, and production better coincides with the daily consumption peaks.”
Practical benefits:
Ville Nieminen has tested the east-west installation in several Renewe implementations: "The results speak for themselves – we get stable daily production and satisfied customers. This works especially well in housing associations and flat roofs, where consumption is constant throughout the day."
Microinverters i.e. panel-specific inverters are one of the most significant emerging trends of 2025. They offer a completely new kind of controllability and safety for solar power systems.
Key benefits:
“Microinverters open doors to more challenging installations and improve system flexibility”, says Ville Nieminen. “For example, in housing complexes where there are air conditioners or other shading structures on the roof, microinverters make the installation significantly more profitable.”
Mika Aaltonen, energy designer at Renewe, adds: “Microinverters are also great for phased projects. You can start with a few panel groups and easily expand the system later.”
Battery solutions are gaining popularity in Finland. Currently, about a fifth of renewable solar projects are built with batteries – a number that could double in a short time. In 2025, the focus will shift from simple storage to smart energy management.
“Customers have understood that just solar power plant not necessarily always sufficient for optimal utilization”, says Mika Aaltonen. “They want systems that automatically direct energy exactly where it is needed – here are the smart ones batteries will come to help.”
A significant change is taking place in the housing company market. Instead of individual solar power systems, more and more housing companies are looking for comprehensive solutions that serve the entire property.
”"”Housing companies understand that solar power can significantly reduce utility bills”, says Ville Nieminen. “At the same time, it increases the value of the property and improves energy efficiency.”
Special needs of housing companies in 2025:

Bifacial solar panels collect solar energy from both sides and are rapidly becoming more common in both the single-family and commercial markets.
“Bifacial panels are particularly suitable for terraces, ground-mounted systems and on lighter roofs,” explains Ville Nieminen. “Reflection can increase production by up to 10-20 percent.”
At the same time, the efficiency of standard panels has improved significantly – in 2025, there will be panels on the market with an efficiency exceeding 23 percent.
The increasing popularity of electric cars is creating new demand for solar power systems. In 2025, we will see more and more projects where electric cars are charging stations and solar power has been designed from the beginning as part of the property's energy solution.
Mika Aaltonen points out: “The battery of an electric car practically acts as a mobile energy storage. Smart charging station can charge the car when there is an excess supply of solar electricity, and if necessary, even feed energy back into the house.”
This so-called V2H (Vehicle-to-Home) technology is starting to become more common in Finland, and it offers completely new opportunities for energy optimization.
From battery systems to panels – responsibility means every step of the chain. For traceable materials, it is especially important that the origin of the product is documented.
At Renewe, Mika Aaltonen emphasizes: “Responsibility is not a trend, it is a condition,” and that is why our selection only includes certified products whose production chains are as transparent as possible.
The solar market is no longer an emerging phenomenon – it is now mature and influential. In 2025, the technology will be smarter, the solutions more efficient and the investment more profitable than ever before. Panels, microinverters, charging stations and batteries together form an intelligent system that brings savings and increases energy self-sufficiency – now and in the future.
