The 750-square-meter pet store of the Musti ja Mirri chain is located in Vantaa in a building whose facade was not allowed to be changed. The store is popular, and in the summer, the lively number of customers combined with the large number of lighting and equipment made the store uncomfortably hot.
Store manager Koskinen describes the situation before the solution: “During the summer heat, the store could be almost 30 degrees. It was unpleasant for both customers and staff. Animal welfare was also a concern – too much heat stresses the animals.”
However, installing traditional cooling solutions was challenging. The building's historic facade was protected, and outdoor units or other visible equipment were not allowed to be installed.
Musti and Mirri contacted Renewee when looking for a solution that would not compromise or change the building's facade, but would effectively cool the store.
“Many companies said it wouldn't work. Renewe's experts, on the other hand, said it would work and started thinking about creative solutions,” Koskinen recalls.
Renewe designed and delivered an innovative water compressor unit solution that did not require outdoor units on the facade:
Cooling implemented with water compressor units: All refrigeration equipment were placed inside the store in the warehouse and back rooms, where they were integrated discreetly.
Water circulation system: Parkair The machine rooms utilize the building's existing hot water points for cooling. This eliminated the need for outdoor units and extensive piping.
Discreet air distribution: The indoor units were strategically placed around the store so that they distribute cool air evenly but are visually discreet and do not disrupt the store's appearance.
Sound attenuation: The system was designed to be especially quiet so as not to disturb customers or animals.
The installation was done outside of store hours to avoid disruption to business operations. The project took about a week.
"The Renewe team was really professional. They worked mainly in the evenings and on weekends so that the store could be open normally. Everything was done neatly and carefully," Koskinen praises.
Before installation, Renewe's designers made precise measurements and modeling to ensure that the cooling capacity would be sufficient for the entire store.
The impact of the new cooling system was immediate and significant. On the first hot day, the system proved its worth.
"The difference is incredible. The store now maintains a pleasant temperature of 22-24 degrees, even in the heat. Customers and staff have noticed the change immediately," Koskinen rejoices.
Heat pump The system's quietness has exceeded expectations. Customers barely notice the equipment's existence, and the animals are calm.
“The system is so quiet that customers often don’t even know the air conditioning is on. It just works quietly in the background.”
We are particularly pleased that the facade remained intact.
Customer feedback has been very positive, with many customers commenting on the pleasant atmosphere of the store.
"We constantly receive feedback about how comfortable it is to shop in the store now. Customers appreciate the cool space, especially in the summer heat," says Koskinen.
The staff is also satisfied. Working conditions have improved significantly, which is reflected in better well-being at work and productivity.
“Staff cope better when the working environment is comfortable. Animals are also clearly more comfortable when the temperature is suitable.”
