Energy renovations and renovations are currently causing an exceptionally high level of suspicion among Finnish property owners – and for good reason. The market is wild. You have probably seen advertisements promising ”up to 90% savings” without justification, or heard horror stories about projects where responsibility has been passed around between the equipment manufacturer, electrician and plumber, with no one taking ownership of the whole.
When it comes to one of the largest investments in your property's lifetime, uncertainty is not an option. That's why we wrote this article to address doubts and concerns honestly and openly.
This is not a marketing pitch. This is a comprehensive overview of how Renewe defines its responsibilities, the math we use to calculate savings estimates, and when we are not the right partner. We want to make it transparent about what a turnkey energy renovation actually means, what it costs, and what happens if things don’t go according to plan.
Our goal is that after reading this, you will know exactly what to expect – and what not to.
The term ”turnkey” has suffered inflation. For many operators, it simply means that an installer brings the equipment to the yard and connects it to the network. For us at Renewe, it means something completely different: it is a promise total responsibility, which begins with the first calculation and continues for decades after the system is introduced.
Our market research and customer feedback show that the biggest fear in energy renovations is the fragmentation of responsibility. If a heat pump does not work optimally together with solar panels or energy storage, is there a fault in the device, the installation or the control? In the traditional model, the customer has to figure this out themselves. In the Renewe model, there is only one responsible party.
Every successful energy renovation starts with data. We don’t use generic rules of thumb, but analyze your property’s actual consumption profile, building physical characteristics, and future needs. This means we size the system so that it is neither over-sized (in which case you pay for something unnecessary) nor under-sized (in which case the savings are not achieved). During the design phase, we also take into account future expansion needs, such as the increase in electric vehicle charging points.
This is a step that surprises many with its complexity. Energy renovation often requires an operation permit, sometimes a building permit, and always notifications to the grid company. Renewe takes full responsibility for this paper war. We are familiar with the municipal building regulations and the requirements of the grid companies, where possible. We handle the permits and notifications for you, so you don't have to queue at agencies or interpret technical requirements.
We are not tied to a single brand of equipment, but select components – whether they are solar panels, inverters, batteries or heat pumps – based on their performance and compatibility. Installation is carried out by Renewe’s own professionals or our carefully audited, certified partner network. This guarantees that the work is of consistent quality from Hanko to Utsjoki.
This is the step that sets us apart from traditional equipment suppliers. We don't just install separate equipment, we create ecosystem. In energy renovation, it is critical that the solar power plant, battery, heat pump and charging stations ”speak the same language”. We integrate these systems to work together if necessary using intelligent control that utilizes exchange-traded electricity price data and weather forecasts. Without this integration, you will lose a significant part of the savings potential.
After the project is completed, you will receive comprehensive documentation of the work done. But our responsibility does not end there. We offer clear templates for remote monitoring and maintenance of the system. If the inverter fails after six years, you do not need to look for the importer's number - you call us, and we will take care of it.
Trust is built on recognizing boundaries. While our goal is to make the process as seamless as possible for our customers, there are some things that are not directly within our control and for which we cannot take full financial responsibility without a separate agreement. We want to be completely honest about this.
Full responsibility: We take full responsibility for the design, installation quality, warranty handling of components, and promised functionality of the system we deliver. If the system does not technically work as agreed, we will fix it.
Customer or third party liability: There are situations where costs come from outside. For example, connection fees charged by the local electricity network company (such as Caruna or Elenia) or costs incurred for increasing the main fuse size are invoiced directly to the property owner. We handle the process and orders, but the network company prices its own services.
Similarly, surprises related to the soil of the property are an interface. If, when drilling a geothermal well or digging a cable trench, exceptionally demanding bedrock is encountered that requires blasting, or if the soil is contaminated, these are additional works. We cannot see underground at the tender stage, but if there is a risk, we will already highlight it during the inspection.
Existing structural defects in the property, such as the poor condition of the roof before the panels were installed or the safety deficiencies of the old electrical panel, are also things that need to be repaired, but they are not included in the basic energy renovation. We do not install new technology on a dangerous or unsustainable foundation.
Example of a living life: Housing company Ruusu in Espoo
A great example of total responsibility is a terraced house company with 18 apartments and an area of approximately 1500m2 in Espoo, for which we implemented 4 geothermal wells, a solar power plant and a charging system integration with dynamic load management. Initially, the company was afraid of expensive changes to the electricity connection.
What we did: We sized the battery and smart control so that the connection did not need to be enlarged, even though the charging points were added. Result: Heating costs fell by 62% in the first year, and the property manager now has one phone number to call for all energy matters.
Warranties, maintenance and service models – Safety for your back
Equipment warranties: The main components we represent (e.g. solar panels, inverters, heat pumps) have, depending on the manufacturer, 2–35 year warranties. We only choose manufacturers who have representation and a service organization in Europe. Installation warranty: Renewe's own work always has a comprehensive installation warranty, depending on the equipment 2-6 years, otherwise we comply with the general terms and conditions of contract or consumer protection law depending on the object. Future-proof: What about in 10 years? Technology is developing, and our systems are designed to be updated. When software or components require modernization in a decade, Renewe is your partner who will take care of the updates in a controlled manner - this way the value of the property is preserved and the system does not become obsolete.
”Up to 80% savings on your energy bill” is a tempting headline, but without context it’s just marketing. For us at Renewe, the savings calculation is not a sales tool, but an engineering exercise. We use conservative calculation models to ensure that our customers are more likely to be positively surprised than disappointed. Our calculations are always based on the starting point of your property, not on marketing dreams.
When we make you a savings estimate in connection with energy renovation, it is based on the following factors:
Initial data and actual consumption profile: We don't use generic averages if we have actual consumption data for your property. We analyze how and when energy is consumed. Is consumption highest in winter for heating or in summer for cooling? This has a decisive impact on how solar power, heat pumps and batteries are sized.
Spot price impact and simulation: The price of electricity fluctuates, and the current price alone does not tell the whole story for a 20-year investment. We simulate savings with different electricity price scenarios. The system must also be profitable at more moderate electricity prices, not just during price peaks. Our intelligent control system optimizes consumption for the cheapest hours, and this benefit is calculated using a realistic coefficient, not a theoretical maximum.
Systems synergy: A single heat pump saves a certain amount. Solar panels save a certain amount. But when they are connected intelligently, a synergy benefit is created. Renewe's calculations take into account how solar electricity can be driven directly to the heat pump or charged to the battery for the evening peak. We calculate the self-consumption rate (the part of the electricity produced that you use yourself) realistically. We do not assume that you will use 100 % of your solar electricity yourself unless you have sufficient battery and automation for that.
Why then are we talking about savings of 40–80 %? Because in a properly dimensioned complex, which combines geothermal energy (which cuts heating costs by about 60–75 %), own solar production and intelligent control, the need for purchased electricity drops dramatically. But each property is individual. If the roof is in the shade or the insulation of the property is poor, we tell you straight away that the savings potential is smaller.
This is how we calculate your savings (Engineering Facts vs. Marketing Hype):
For a savings calculation to pass critical scrutiny, it cannot be based on guesswork. Our calculation model includes the following variables, which are often omitted from other operators' calculations in the hope of embellishment:
There are sites where maximum savings are not technically or economically realistic – we will tell you this directly during the mapping phase.
This is the question that separates a responsible partner from the ”easy-going.” Energy renovation is a complex process, and sometimes reality differs significantly from the models.
At Renewe, the process doesn't end with installation. We monitor the operation of your systems remotely if you wish. If we notice that the savings/operation do not meet expectations, we investigate the cause. Is it a technical fault? Has the equipment been set incorrectly? Or has consumption behavior changed radically?
We make the necessary optimizations and adjustments. Modern systems are upgradable, and we can often fine-tune thermal curves or battery charging cycles remotely. If the lack of savings is due to a mistake we made in sizing or installation, we will take responsibility for it. Our goal is a long-term partnership, not a quick win.
Unfortunately, pricing in the industry is often intentionally vague. We want to break this pattern. Although each property is unique, and the exact price always requires a review, we can reveal the cost structure and typical price ranges.
An extensive energy renovation of a detached house, which includes, for example, an air-to-water heat pump, a solar power system and smart control installed, typically costs between 15,000 and 45,000 euros. Housing companies and companies often talk about six-figure investments, with typical prices ranging between 50,000 and 500,000 euros, but the savings also scale in the same proportion.
What is included in the price: In Renewe's offers, the basic price is always a fixed contract price, which includes:
Where additional costs can arise – and where customers are usually surprised: As mentioned earlier, there are costs that we cannot include in the fixed price without making the price too high for safety reasons. We want you to only pay for what is actually done.
The most common additional work is related to for the renewal of the electrical center. If the old electrical panel on the property is full or has safety deficiencies, it must be renewed or expanded. This is a safety issue.
Another common target is cable routes. If the cable has to be laid over exceptionally long distances, made penetrations in thick stone walls or dug in challenging terrain, these can bring additional costs.
The third is scaffolding, hauling and lifting equipment. Working safely on particularly high or complex ceilings requires more robust equipment.
Renewe's promise is that we will never start additional work without your approval. If during the installation the need for additional work arises, our installer will go over it with you, give you a price, and the work will only be done after approval. There will be no surprises on the invoice.
We are proud of what we do, but we also know that we are not the right partner for everyone.

We have compiled the questions we are most often asked ”off-the-record.” We would like to answer them publicly.
This is a common observation, and we take it as a compliment. The market often uses ”optimal scenarios” in calculations (high electricity prices, perfect sunshine, 100 % self-use). We use conservative model. We calculate savings using realistic average electricity prices and actual consumption profiles. We want the actual savings to exceed rather than fall short of the estimate. We don't want to sell you disappointment.
No. Although we offer lifecycle services, we do not build ”black boxes”. We use well-known, high-quality components (such as Sigenergy, nibe, etc.) that other professionals in the field can also maintain. The system is your property. Our goal is that you want to remain our customer because of good service, not because of obligation.
This is an important question. Equipment has manufacturer warranties (typically 5–10 years, panels up to 25 years). Renewe's installation work has its own warranty. After the warranty period, we offer maintenance service according to the price list. Because we are a solid, long-established company, we will still be here to answer the phone in ten years - unlike many "one-summer" installation companies.
In most cases, yes. We are an integrator by definition. If you already have panels, we can often retrofit the system with a battery and smart controls. This always requires a case-by-case review to ensure compatibility with your old inverter. We don't force you to buy everything new if the old one works..
The contract price specified in the offer is fixed for those parts that are within our scope of delivery. As we mentioned in the article, third-party costs (such as network company connection fees or extensive earthworks if no rock was detected) are the only variables. We will review these risks before signing the contract to avoid surprise bills.
Safety is our number one priority. We only use certified components (e.g. LFP battery technology, which is more fire-safe than old Li-ion batteries) and adhere to the strictest installation standards. Our installers are specifically trained in high-voltage and battery systems. We always perform a commissioning inspection to ensure the safety of the system.
Now that you know, how we act, it's time to look, what we can build for you. Take a closer look at the individual solutions and see how they integrate into your property ecosystem, a few examples:
