Heat pump transfers heat from the outside air, ground or exhaust air to the interior of the building by utilizing a refrigerant cycle. The system uses electricity to transfer heat, but does not itself produce heat with resistance, making it significantly more energy efficient than, for example, direct electric heating.
There is no need to turn off the heat pump in frost, unless the manufacturer or service department specifically recommends it. High-quality models are designed to operate even in severe frosts. In severe frosts, the efficiency drops, but the device still works. In some cases, additional heating is used as support.
The installation of a heat pump includes the placement of the equipment, plumbing and electrical work, and commissioning. During the installation, correct sizing, effective condensate management, and safe placement in relation to the environment are ensured. The installation may only be carried out by a trained Tukes professional who has the necessary refrigerant and electrical permits and certificates.
