Batteries

In Finland, the use of energy storage has become more common, especially in single-family homes and companies that utilize solar electricity. Batteries enable the storage and use of solar electricity when consumption is highest or production is low. Finland's variable weather conditions and high electricity prices make energy storage an increasingly attractive solution.

A battery installed in a detached house improves the self-consumption rate of solar electricity and provides security in the event of power outages, for example. A typical capacity for home use is 10–20 kWh, which is enough to cover evening and night-time consumption during the summer season. The battery is sized according to the consumption of the house or property and the production of the solar power plant.

Solar power can be stored in a battery during the day and used later when consumption exceeds production. This reduces the amount of electricity purchased from the grid and increases the economic benefit of the system. The battery also enables better efficiency when production exceeds current consumption.
